Invisible Orthodontics in Champaign & Monticello, IL

All patients deserve to have a vibrant, healthy, and beautiful smile. Here at Huls Orthodontics, it is our goal to give you a smile that you want to show off in your pictures and everyday life. We take our role as a leading provider of braces in Champaign & Monticello seriously since we strive to personalize care and tailor treatments to match each of our patients' lifestyles.

The objective is to make the treatment process as convenient as possible for you. Although traditional metal braces are still one of our most requested treatments, our office also offers a variety of other treatment options. Those options include Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, which happen to be two of the most popular braces alternatives for adults and teens.

What is Invisalign?

The steps taken to get Invisalign

When looking into your Invisalign options, it is important to first know a little about Invisalign. Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that is so clear they are almost impossible to see. Instead of using metal brackets and wires, Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth.

These aligner trays fit directly onto your mouth's dental arch and are made of a nearly invisible polyurethane plastic material. This makes them nearly impossible to see. Invisalign aligners are fully removable, so you can take them out when eating, cleaning your teeth, or for special occasions.

Invisalign has several advantages over traditional braces since it is so different. Its benefits include:

  • Better Oral Hygiene: Since they're removable, Invisalign aligners ensure you easily keep your teeth clean. You won't need to use floss threaders or specialized cleaning tools since you can take the trays out and brush, floss, and rinse as normal.
  • Very Discreet: Other people don't need to know you're receiving treatment from an orthodontist. Invisalign gives you more self-confidence since they're almost entirely invisible.
  • No Special Diet: Avoiding certain foods that can damage braces makes having them cemented to your teeth difficult. Invisalign, however, allows you to eat whatever you prefer since you just remove the aligner before you eat and put it back in after you're done.
  • Increased Comfort: These smooth plastic aligners will not irritate the soft tissues in your mouth, unlike metal braces. You won't develop sore spots inside your cheeks or lips since no parts will rub or poke.

Some orthodontic problems are best treated with conventional braces, so Invisalign might not be ideal for you. Dr. Mark B. Huls will let you know if you make a good candidate for Invisalign during your first visit.

What You Should Expect During Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign treatment is an effective process that follows a series of basic steps. First, you must undergo an orthodontic examination with Dr. Huls to find out if you have an orthodontic problem that can be treated with Invisalign. If so, we'll use our digital imaging software to capture impressions and images of your teeth, creating a 3D computer model of your smile.

Next, we'll use this model to plan your treatment, breaking it into two-week increments. Afterward, we'll send our detailed treatment plan to Align Technology, where your Invisalign aligners will be custom-made.

After you receive your aligners, you should wear them all day. You'll remove them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Each set is worn for about two weeks before switching to the next pair in the series. With each new pair, you'll move closer to your final goal. Once you finish with your last pair, you'll walk away with a smile in which you can take pride.

Getting Invisalign Teen

Invisalign's convenient and discreet nature has made it a hit for adult orthodontic patients. We also offer a form of Invisalign that's specifically made for adolescent orthodontic patients: Invisalign Teen. This uses the same revolutionary system of aligners as traditional Invisalign but is designed to perfectly fit the modern teenager lifestyle. In addition to maintaining all the benefits of traditional Invisalign, Invisalign Teen includes several features that are custom-suited to today's teens:

  • Compliance Indicators: Built-in Blue Dot Wear Indicators show orthodontists, parents, and teens if the aligners are being worn long enough or if you need to wear them more.
  • Eruption Tabs: Invisalign Teen aligners can have special eruption tabs, which hold open space for any unerupted teeth.
  • Free Replacement Aligners: Six replacement aligners come free, just in case one gets lost or broken.
