Is Invisalign or Clear Braces Right for Me?

Everyone deserves a smile they're truly proud of, and thanks to the convenience of modern orthodontics, it's never been easier to achieve one. For patients seeking a more discreet option for orthodontic treatment, both clear braces and Invisalign offer low-profile, discreet ways to achieve a new smile – but how do you know which is best for you? As your Monticello & Champaign orthodontist, we at Huls Orthodontics are here to shed some light on these two orthodontic treatments and help you determine the best option for your new smile.

Is Invisalign or Clear Braces Better?

However, the two treatments use fundamentally different methods to straighten the teeth, and that means they come with their own unique advantages and disadvantages.

Clear braces use the same mechanics as traditional braces, relying on a system of brackets and springy metal archwires to move the teeth. This means clear braces are just as reliable as traditional braces, and they can be used on virtually any orthodontic malocclusion. The difference is that clear braces use brackets made from a clear ceramic composite material, allowing them to blend in with teeth and making them much less noticeable than regular braces. Generally speaking, clear braces are probably best for you if you require extensive orthodontic treatment or you're looking for an option that combines discretion with cost-effectiveness.

Invisalign aligners are nearly impossible to see when worn and easy to pop in and out for eating, drinking, oral hygiene, and rare special occasions. This makes Invisalign one of the most convenient and discreet treatments on the market, but it isn't right for all patients and does tend to cost more. You might benefit from Invisalign is you value a discreet, low-profile treatment more than cost-efficacy, and especially if you have a milder orthodontic malocclusion.
